Extension Tubes vs Dedicated Macro Lens

I am usually using Sony NEXF3 and SEL1855, but a few weeks ago I purchased a dedicated macro lens, SEL30M35, for Sony-NEXF3. And I must say that it is really good. Here are some of the shots.

Last week, I got my Fotga Extension Tubes, 16mm and 10mm. I was quite impressed with the material and the finish. It seems durable as it's made of metal. The color matches with the body. Autofocus, auto exposure, and more are supported as it is with electronic contacts, which is well built providing smooth transmitting signal.

I took some photos with it using SEL1855 and SEL30M35 in manual mode.

It seems that you lose some light with the tubes as the sensor would be too far. I used the same settings. I've not done automatic mode yet, I'll do it in the next post.

With the results above, I was feeling a little bit regretful having spent the SEL30M35 but when I used the tubes with the SEL30M35, I changed my mind.
SEL30M35 + 16mm +10mm, f/13, 1/40, ISO-6400

Using a dedicated macro lens and extension tubes have advantages and disadvantages. You can get good photos without really getting closer to the subject by using the extension tubes, but you'll lose some light. But if detail is what you want without turning on the digital zoom, then a dedicated macro lens would be good, but proper lighting would have to be considered.

  1. I have a question for this image http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SZfcYOueL1M/UYJguvz1ouI/AAAAAAAABVw/9lDIcZIDhGk/s1600/DSC04223.JPG

is this at 18mm or at 55mm?
I'm thinking of either buying the extension tube with my sel35f18 or get the macro lens sel30m35.

I got this meikon dive housing and it can only fit sel1650 and i've tested with sel35f18.
    sel30m35 maybe it will fit.

do you mind letting me know the length of the extension tube?
